What is the difference between personal care and companion care?

Companion care focuses on social engagement, conversation, light housekeeping, errands, and supervision. Personal care includes all of that plus hands-on help with the activities of daily living — bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility. Many families begin with companionship care and add personal care as their loved one's needs grow.

Can we request a caregiver of the same gender?

Yes. We understand that bathing, dressing, and toileting are deeply personal, and many seniors feel more comfortable with a same-gender caregiver. We're happy to accommodate this preference whenever possible and will always prioritize your loved one's comfort and dignity.

Question 3

Do your caregivers provide any medical or nursing care?

Accepted Answer

No. Harmony at Home provides non-medical personal care. Our caregivers assist with daily living, companionship, supervision, and medication reminders, but they do not provide nursing, therapy, or medical treatment. We complement — and never replace — the care provided by your loved one's doctors, home health nurses, and therapists.

How much does personal care cost?

Personal care is billed at our standard hourly home care rates, with no long-term contracts required. Some long-term care insurance policies cover personal care, and families using EEOICPA/DEEOIC or VA benefits may also be eligible. Visit our rates page for detailed pricing information.

How few hours can we start with?

Accepted Answer

Personal care is flexible. Some families start with just a few hours a week — perhaps for help with morning bathing and dressing — while others need daily or around-the-clock support. We can scale up or down as your loved one's needs change, and you can adjust the schedule at any time.
