One-on-One Support in Memory Care Facilities in East Tennessee

Living in memory care does not make personal connection any less important. Harmony at Home offers dedicated, non-medical one-on-one support inside dementia-specific assisted living and memory care facilities, working alongside—not instead of—the facility's staff.

Specifically for residents in dementia-focused settings

This service is for a person with dementia who lives in a dementia-specific assisted living setting or memory care facility. It is not a general assisted living service. A family may want additional individual time during a move, a familiar routine between visits, or company during a part of the day that feels especially difficult. We discuss whether the requested support is appropriate before arranging visits.

One person, familiar interests, a patient pace

The plan starts with what matters to the resident: preferred music, meaningful stories, a usual morning routine, or a favorite activity. Subject to the facility's permission, support may include:

  • Patient conversation, reassurance, and gentle reminders without arguing or testing memory.
  • Looking through family photographs, reading together, or enjoying familiar music.
  • Encouragement to join an appropriate facility activity, with respect for the resident's preferences.
  • Company during meals and simple everyday assistance when permitted by the facility and care plan.
  • Support with familiar routines during agreed visit hours, including times when family cannot visit.
  • Non-clinical updates to an authorized family contact and communication of concerns to facility staff.

A clear role alongside the memory care team

The facility remains responsible for its staffing, clinical care, medication administration, and resident safety procedures. Our caregiver provides supplemental non-medical support; we do not provide medical monitoring, treat dementia, change the facility's care plan, or replace required staff. One-on-one attention does not guarantee prevention of falls, wandering, distress, or other safety events. Clinical changes or urgent concerns are referred to facility staff.

Coordinate access and responsibilities first

Before visits begin, the family and facility need to confirm that an outside caregiver is allowed and agree on permitted tasks. We discuss visitor access, secure-unit entry and exit, infection precautions, privacy, activity participation, and whom to contact for assistance. The facility's care instructions and rules guide every visit. We do not assume an existing partnership with any particular community.

Bring the details that make care personal

Tell us which routines feel familiar, how your loved one likes to be addressed, what can be upsetting, and what usually helps them feel at ease. Share the facility contact and preferred visit times. We can discuss caregiver matching and continuity, while recognizing that a specific caregiver or schedule depends on availability. Changes in needs should be reviewed with the facility and family rather than handled by expanding the caregiver's role without agreement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this support for any assisted living resident?

No. This service is specifically for one-on-one dementia support inside dementia-specific assisted living or memory care facilities. It is not a general assisted living offering. Contact us to discuss the setting and your loved one's needs.

Why arrange a caregiver when the facility already has staff?

Some families want additional individual companionship or help maintaining a familiar routine during agreed hours. Our support supplements the facility's services and does not suggest that its staff can be replaced or that its responsibilities transfer to us.

Does the memory care facility have to approve visits?

Yes. The facility must permit an outside caregiver, and visits must follow its access requirements, care instructions, and secure-unit rules. Permitted tasks and communication contacts should be agreed before support begins.

Can a caregiver manage medication or prevent wandering?

We do not administer medication or provide medical monitoring. Facility staff remain responsible for medication and safety procedures. A caregiver can offer companionship and report concerns, but cannot guarantee that wandering, falls, or other incidents will not occur.

Can we request regular visits with the same caregiver?

Tell us your preferred hours and the importance of familiar faces. We can discuss continuity and caregiver matching, but a particular caregiver or schedule depends on availability and facility approval. Contact us for a proposed plan and its cost.
